There has been a church on this site for at least one thousand years and Southwark Cathedral is the oldest building in Southwark bearing witness to the comings and goings across London Bridge. If you go inside you are in for a treat: from the memorial window to Southwark's favourite son William Shakespeare to the poignance of the memorial to those who lost their lives in the nearby Marchioness tragedy in 1991, it is a special place.
