What is 'marchpane' that GBBO were creating this week?

Visit the Tudor kitchens at Hampton Court and from time to time, you will see the food historians busy cooking Tudor style dishes including, of course, the popular marchpane made for the King's banquets. Banquets were not quite as we know them today and were an opportunity for displaying and eating all things sweet. This included marchpane made from icing sugar, rose water and ground almonds. Delicious!!
